The current cost of living crisis has led to many of us scrutinising our finances more than ever before. This has resulted in multitudes of people looking for cheaper ways to do things, including heating their homes. Whilst often proving a positive and practical money saving step (see our top tips here), some of these supposed ‘savings’ actually end up costing more over time. Purchasing cheap radiators may, at first, seem like a viable option, however, it often turns out that the opposite is true.
‘The reason that the rich were so rich, Vimes reasoned, was because they managed to spend less money. Take boots, for example. He earned thirty-eight dollars a month plus allowances. A really good pair of leather boots cost fifty dollars. But an affordable pair of boots, which were sort of OK for a season or two and then leaked like hell when the cardboard gave out, cost about ten dollars. Those were the kind of boots Vimes always bought, and wore until the soles were so thin that he could tell where he was in Ankh-Morpork on a foggy night by the feel of the cobbles. But the thing was that good boots lasted for years and years. A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that'd still be keeping his feet dry in ten years' time, while the poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet.’
This extract illustrates how purchasing cheap radiators may save money in the short term, it may ultimately end up costing more.
As with any purchase, if poor materials are used, such as those used to manufacture the aforementioned boots, you are likely to have to replace these within a much shorter space of time.
Here at Trads, we use only the highest calibre of Cast Iron available. Combining this with the master craftsmanship that you will find in our Lincolnshire-based factory ensures that every radiator manufactured is of the highest quality and is built to last. This is why we offer a lifetime guarantee on all of our Cast Iron Radiators.

A large part of the cost of living crisis relates to the dramatic increase in energy bills. One way to keep your energy bills down is to ensure that you are heating your home in the most effective manner possible.
Cast Iron is a material with a particularly high thermal mass. Thermal mass describes the ability of a material to absorb, store and release heat. Standard, cheap radiators that you may find in typical properties have a much lower thermal mass. This means that they lose heat very quickly after the heating is switched off, whereas our Cast Iron Radiators will continue to warm a room long after the central heating is switched off.
Avoid cheap radiators costing more in the long run by purchasing your new heating solution from Trads. As well as exceptional quality, we offer over 50 Cast Iron models and over 10,000 colour and finish options. Find your ideal radiators on our website.
