When purchasing a new radiator, it is important to ensure that its size is appropriate for the room in which it is situated as choosing a model of the wrong size will result in less effective heating. Read on to learn about how to pick the appropriate radiator size for your space.
The larger the radiator, the more heat is emitted. For bigger rooms with higher ceilings, you will need considerably more radiators and/or ones greater in size than you would for a small space. Fortunately, there is an effective method to calculate the size that you need, by working out the BTUs (British Thermal Units) required.
A BTU is a unit of measurement of heat per hour. Attempting to calculate this figure by yourself may be tricky, which is why we have a FREE BTU calculator on our website. All you need to do is input the room's dimensions, what type of room it is (bedroom/bathroom/kitchen) and then check off some extra factors, such as whether the room is north facing and if you have double glazing. This will then let you know what radiator size will heat the room effectively.
When decorating their homes, many people position furniture in front of their radiators. Whilst this may help free up wall space, it also prevents the radiator from heating the room effectively. Instead of heat spreading throughout the space, it is simply warming up the back of the sofa or bookcase.
If you have limited wall space you could opt for a model with more columns, like this Victorian 6 column, as opposed to a slimmer radiator, such as a Victorian 2 column - columns dictate the depth of the radiator. Conversely, in a narrow hallway, you are likely to need a radiator with fewer columns such as this Rathmell 2 column - this is the tallest radiator in our collection and is designed to produce more BTUs thanks to its height advantage. Alternatively, you could opt for more sections - sections dictate the length of the radiator. As we assemble your radiators in our very own Lincolnshire-based factory, they are fully customisable, allowing you to select 3 to 30 sections, and 2, 3, 4, 6 or 9 columns! With over 50 models and heights available, we are sure you will find the perfect fit for your home.
Over the years, we have had a number of customers who have come to us looking for shorter radiators to fit into more awkward spots, like under bay windows, for example. We have the perfect solution in the form of this Victorian 9 column! This radiator produces an impressive amount of heat, yet fits in much smaller spots!
As you can see, our wide range of models makes it simple for you to find the correct radiator size for your home! Here, we have included just a few examples from our collection and you can find the full range on our website. You can design your ideal radiator or choose from our ready-made collection!
